Glass and Glass-Ceramics Based on Weathered Basaltic Rock for Radiation Shielding Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Different batches of weathered basalt ranging from 100 to 50 %, in combination with by-pass cement dust, were used prepare the glass compositions. techniques utilized such as differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, density, FTIR, mass attenuation coefficients, appropriate atomic number (Zeff), and effective electron density (Neff), examined for prepared glass-ceramics samples at different photon energies. In present study, it was revealed that molar volume decreases, increases. The experimental theoretical effects component mostly consistent results (WB100) containing a higher percentage basaltic rocks demonstrated radiation protection than those lower rate (WB50). addition, displayed enhanced gamma rays glass. Therefore, we recommend using glass- ceramics % protective shield against thickness protection.

Rare earth doped glass-ceramics transparent in the infrared region up to 16 μm have been prepared and studied. The enhancement of the emission of Er 3+ ions at 1.54 μm with increasing crystallinity was demonstrated in a seleniumbased glass-ceramic having a composition of 80GeSe2-20Ga2Se3+1000 ppm Er. The optical transmission, microstructure and luminescence properties of a base glass and glass-...

In the present study, the feasibility of α-Fe ferromagnetic phase formation in glass and glass-ceramic by reduction in hydrogen atmosphere have been investigated. The glass with the composition of 35Na 2 O–24Fe2O3–20B 2O3 – 20SiO 2 –1ZnO (mol %) was melted and quenched by using a twin roller technique. As quenched glass flakes were heat treated in the range of 400-675 °C for 1-2 h in h...
متن کاملThrough the Basaltic Looking Glass : Paired Remote Sensing and Experimental Studies of Glass on Mars
Introduction: Glasses on Mars, formed by impact melting and volcanism, likely make up a significant fraction of the regolith because they accumulate over time and there have been few processes operating in the last ~3.5 Ga to destroy them [1]. These glasses have exciting astrobiological implications because they can host microbial colonies and preserve biosignatures [2-5]; they may have also se...
